E4. From Objectives to Outcomes: Using attribution modeling technology to connect training activities with business results
Attribution modeling is a rapidly developing practice in marketing analytics, but has yet to be applied to training activities and their corresponding outcomes. In this session, Dr. Gary Woodill will describe a new approach that incorporates new data collection techniques and “big data” to record objectives, track training experiences and learning opportunities for employees, and attributes these activities to business results and employee performance. A precursor to outcome attribution is the development of new learning platforms that align training activities with objectives, find and aggregate a wide variety of relevant resources, integrate resources into blocks of content, and record performance results. With enough data points, such a system can provide insights on the impact of training, and help diagnose strengths and weaknesses of any training program. Several case studies of this approach will be presented and discussed in this session and participants will experience a hands-on exercise using big data.
